Jersey County Jail Release Paths
Leaving Jersey County Jail can describe several events. A judge may authorize pretrial release. Charges may be dismissed, another order may end detention, or a person may complete a county sentence. Those events can lead to the community. The Sheriff may instead transfer a person to IDOC, another jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, ICE, or another lawful custodian. A transfer ends the county jail episode without ending custody.
| Jail movement | What to verify next |
|---|---|
| Community release under court order | Compare the court order with the jail discharge time |
| County sentence completed | Compare the judgment and jail credit with actual discharge |
| Transfer to IDOC | Use the receiving agency and IDOC status |
| Transfer to another jail | Search or contact the named receiving county |
| Federal or immigration handoff | Use USMS, BOP, or ICE channels as applicable |
The best county proof is a dated chronological movement entry stating when the person was discharged or transferred and, when available, the authority, type, or destination. The signed court order is strongest for legal authority. Neither one should be used beyond its scope. An order may precede the actual exit, and a discharge entry may require the docket to explain why it occurred.
Confirm Jersey County Jail Release
No reliable online Jersey County Jail roster or release list was found. The Sheriff page's nominal search route leads to IDOC, which is a state-prison system rather than a county jail database. Confirmation therefore begins with the jail and court, then follows any named transfer.
- Call Jersey County Jail and ask whether the person is currently there. If the answer is no, ask staff to distinguish discharge from transfer and give the actual date and time if releasable.
- Search the Jersey County Judici docket for the release, detention, dismissal, sentencing, commitment, or later warrant order. An order proves authority, not the exact physical exit.
- Check Illinois VINE for a custody-change signal. Treat an alert as agency-specific and verify whether the event meant release or transfer.
- Request the Sheriff's chronological custody movement record when phone information is limited or a durable record is needed.
- If the movement names IDOC, another jail, USMS, or ICE, continue with that agency. Do not relabel a transfer as release to the community.
“Not in Jersey County Jail” does not mean free from custody. Ask for the movement type and receiving agency.

Jersey County Jail Records Contact
The Sheriff's Office operates the jail and supplies the first current-custody check. Its published office contact is open around the clock. A phone answer may be limited to present custody, so note the date, time, and exact wording. If staff cannot explain an older movement, use a focused written request rather than assuming the person was released.

Jersey County directs FOIA requests to the State's Attorney at 201 W. Pearl St., Jerseyville, IL 62052, phone 618-498-5571, or statesattorney@jerseycounty-il.gov. No Sheriff-specific online form or local release/photo fee schedule was verified. A plain written request can reasonably describe the record and ask for electronic delivery.
Request the full name, booking or case number when known, booking date and time, discharge or transfer date and time, release authority or type, and receiving agency when transferred. Ask for the booking photograph separately if needed for identity. A photograph documents booking, not release. Under 5 ILCS 140/2.15, chronologically maintained arrest and custody information includes receipt, discharge, and transfer timing, subject to lawful exemptions.
Verified Jersey County Jail Facts
Jersey County Jail is the county booking and short-term detention facility under the Jersey County Sheriff's Office. The Illinois Sheriffs' Association identifies Sheriff Nicholas J. Manns, Chief Deputy Mark Marshall, and Jail Administrator Sgt. Jason Huitt. Leadership and contact details can change, so the facility's main line remains the best operational route.
The one-bed difference is a transparent source-version difference. IDOC's 2022 inspection described 31 male and 12 female spaces, no juvenile capacity, and eight employees assigned full-time jail duties. The current association profile says 44 beds. Both figures are far more reliable than generic copy on the county page claiming roughly 58 people, 73 staff, and 356 monthly bookings. Those conflicting generic figures should not be used.
The Illinois Sheriffs' Association profile supplies the current 44-bed figure and facility leadership. The image below comes from that official profile.
The profile helps confirm the local operator and contact context, but it does not replace the dated jail movement entry needed to prove a release or transfer.
Jersey Jail Property and Aftercare
The IDOC inspection supplies limited release-related operational context. Its standards address accounting for detainee property and funds. It also noted a referral, prescriptions, or a two-week medication supply as the expected mental-health aftercare linkage. Those points show that property accounting and continuity of care are part of the reviewed jail framework.
The inspection does not publish Jersey County Jail's exit door, normal discharge time, weekend or holiday routine, family waiting rule, or local property-return checklist. It also does not establish a jail-provided ride. Ask staff about the specific release event and current procedure. Do not import practices from a larger Illinois jail or assume that a standard described elsewhere applies in Jerseyville.
Jersey County Transfer Follow-Up
A transfer record should name the receiving authority whenever available. If it identifies IDOC, the person has left the county jail but remains in state custody. Search IDOC using a stable identifier and compare the profile with the sentencing case. If it identifies another county, contact that jail. A federal handoff may involve USMS before a BOP commitment, while an immigration transfer calls for ICE's system and follow-up channels.
VINE can report an agency custody change, but the alert may not state the release type or destination. A county discharge finding can also be accurate even if another agency books the person later that day. Record conclusions as event, source, and limit. For example, state that the Sheriff recorded a transfer on a given date, then name the receiving-system check still required. This avoids turning one agency's movement into a claim about all custody.
Jersey Jail Record Limits
Public visibility and record retention are not the same. Jersey County publishes no verified release archive and no roster-retention period. An older movement may still exist even when nothing appears online. If the agency says a record no longer exists, ask for the applicable retention-schedule citation and destruction authorization. If a record is partly withheld, request the segregable receipt, discharge, and transfer fields and the exemption used for any redaction.
Sealed, expunged, juvenile, medical, victim, investigative, and security material can affect access. A narrow request for the custody movement is more useful than a demand for every report, message, video, or medical record. Names can also collide. Include a booking number, case number, date of birth, and date range when known. The goal is to identify one custody episode and learn how it ended.
